Title:
Combatting Historical Trauma in Younger Generations Through Implementing SEL in Education Programs
Abstract:
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is an essential aspect of an individual’s ability to manage one’s difficult experiences. In our literature-based research, we explore particular aspects of cultural trauma, such as its historical roots, symptomatic manifestations, and how it may be treated. With a specific focus on treatment while also examining how trauma may be elicited and experienced, we discuss how Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs serve to develop necessary emotional skills for adolescents. Our research seeks to understand the effective methods by which emotional trauma may be addressed through education, and should a better understanding of how emotional intelligence is learned in this regard develop, community awareness of the effects and treatment of trauma will increase and overall community welfare will improve.
