Flagstaff-as-Text:
New NAU Honors Freshmen each Fall participate in a project titled, “Flagstaff-as-Text,” where they are challenged to learn about Flagstaff by investigating, exploring, and immersing themselves in a Flagstaff neighborhood surrounding the NAU campus in groups of three to five students. Students are asked to understand what it means to live, work, or visit a particular neighborhood and they are required to use their five senses to later “map” the area and identify prominent aspects or landmarks of the assigned neighborhood. The purpose of the project is to get new NAU Honors Freshmen thinking about the greater community in which they now live. What is it like to live/work/visit in Flagstaff? What sort of things does Flagstaff have to offer? How does NAU interact with Flagstaff? What is it like to be an NAU Honors student in Flagstaff? These presentations ranged from posters to videos to even more creative representations of Flagstaff.
