Exercise Science Honors Capstone Project

Abstract:
As I will be going into the physical therapy field, it is important to choose a project that will benefit me in the future. The class primarily focuses on exercise prescription for healthy and diseased populations. It was important to remember that many things affect a person’s health besides just their injury. Being able to address all kinds of health when treating a patient is essential to success. The aim of the project was to consider all of those aspects of health and create an added experience to enhance the class.
We discussed that mental health is important for a patient’s treatment and something that must be considered. Injuries can be debilitating to a patient’s self-worth or just overall mental health. The pamphlet will include information about mental health, which a patient could benefit from in order to produce a better prognosis or outcome for their injury. This is something that could be given out to patients to read over and start a conversation that is tough for some people. Mental health is a sensitive subject and something like a pamphlet could make a patient feel more comfortable to ask questions in the future.
