Title:
Battling Issues in Blast Related Traumatic Brain Injury
Abstract:
Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) causing blast-related mild Traumatic Brain Injuries (mTBI) are common and often result in neurobehavioral changes and possible life-threatening injuries to military Service Members (SMs). Blast-related mTBI in the military is often discounted and difficult to differentiate between PTSD and/or depression. The main purpose of this scholarly review is to educate others on the differences between mTBIs caused by combat and those frequently seen in the general population. An understanding of the distinction in pathophysiology is needed for successful and effective intervention.
