Title:
A Meta-Analysis of the Relationship Between Authoritative Parenting and Prosocial Behavior
Abstract:
The purpose of this meta-analysis was to examine the effect of authoritative parenting on children's prosocial behavior. We conducted this meta analysis because it interested all of us to know the effects of parenting styles and how it affects our relationships with others. The research literature was sourced by searching the PsyInfo, PsyArticles, and Web of Science databases using the keywords authoritative parenting, gentle parenting, and prosocial behavior. A small set of studies was obtained that descriptive statistics such as Pearson R correlation coefficient were entered into a Meta-Essential v1.4 (van Rhee et al., 2018) spreadsheet to calculate a summary effect weighted by sample size. A Forest Plot was generated to display point estimates and confidence intervals for each study. The weighted average effect size will be discussed in relation to how it informs the variability of estimates observed in previously published literature.
