Flagstaff Doula/Flagstaff Birth Support Fund Postpartum Mental Health Partner Intervention

Abstract:

Background: Our team is working with Flagstaff Doulas and the Flagstaff Birth Support Fund (FBSF) to create an intervention that focuses on the improvement of postpartum mental health of perinatal women with an emphasis on their partners. Flagstaff Doulas and FBSF provide new and expecting parents with birthing and postpartum doula support through a series of services that each have a different focus. All of these services are geared towards improving maternal and partner health through all phases of the childbearing process.
Impact Objectives: Overall, we want our intervention to increase the knowledge surrounding postpartum mental health, the resources of Flagstaff Doulas, and the promotion of self-efficacy surrounding mental health issues.
Proposed Activities: The activities for our intervention will include promoting awareness and self-reflection through watching a documentary on postpartum depression. We will also create a fact sheet that will educate readers, specifically, partners on the factors of postpartum depression and resources from Flagstaff Doulas. There will be a self-care activity that will be made for the partners to promote mental health and support between partners.
Evaluation: Our intervention will be evaluated by a pre-survey and post-survey to estimate partners' knowledge regarding postpartum mental health has changed following our intervention.
