Title:
Religion on Death Row
Abstract:
While researching different scales, our team found two scales that relate very closely to our topic of attitude towards the death penalty in relations to individuals' relationship with religion. The first scale our team decided to use focuses on attitudes towards the death penalty. This scales predicting factors were gender, age and race. This scale is also proved useful because it asks general questions about the death penalty without going into depth on specific circumstances. This keeps the questionnaire general, clearer and easier to answer. Our study proves different than past because we focus on the relationship between the intensity of ones’ relationship with religion and their attitude towards the death penalty. We hypothesized if one has a deeper connection with religion then they will be more likely to oppose capital punishment. We collected data from 161 students and social media users through a survey delivered by convenience sampling. We used OLS regression to test our hypothesis through social media and university resources. OLS regression was appropriate for our study due to our dependent variable being measurable on the ratio level. Results are forthcoming.
