Title:
Risky and Reckless Driving
Abstract:
The main intention of this study was to focus on data correlating risky driving behaviors to family and social bonds. A multitude of studies have attempted to analyze reckless driving in terms of peer pressure (Alberto, 2022), road rage (Coleman, 2022), overconfidence (Hollywood, 2022), social media, electronic device usage (reckless driving behaviors that can cause car accidents, 2022), and risk-glorifying video games (Hull et al., 2012) but none of these studies attempt to examine risky driving habits in terms of ties to the social and familial community to the best of our knowledge. In turn, this study through a qualitative approach attempts to provide data about the correlation between risky driving behaviors and social bond theories, which can be used to reduce risky driving habits that can turn into dangerous outcomes on the roads. Our group has hypothesized that those who have low social bonds and strained social relationships are more likely to engage in behavior that is constituted as risky driving. Our sample consisted of about 120 users from Northern Arizona University and was measured through social media platforms using a convenience sampling method. We have utilized OLS regression to analyze the data. Results forthcoming..
